The "2010 China's Best Hospitals list", the top 80 hospitals in China voted on and selected by 2,009 medical experts across China was officially released on November 19th. The list was compiled by the Institute Hospital Management at Fudan University in Shanghai, and will be updated annually.
The list is an objective and fair reflection of Chinese hospitals, ranking them according to their "clinical strength", "academic prestige" and "ability to treat difficult illnesses". According to Professor Gao Jiechun, head of the Institute Hospital Management, a series of voting and peer-review regulations for the 2,009 participants ensures that there will be no vote rigging or statistical discrepancies in the final ranking.
The top ten hospitals in 2010 are: Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Sichuan University Huaxi Hospital, General Hospital of PLA, Shanghai Jiaotong University Medical School Ruijin Hospital, Fudan University Huashan Hospital, No. 4 Military Medical University Xijing Hospital, Peking University First Hospital, Fudan University Zhongshan Hospital, Zhongshan University First Hospital and Peking University People’s Hospital.

Congratulations on the report because it is very important, not only to the Chinese as mainly for foreigners living or working in China eventually. Know the best hospitals is essential if there is need for specific treatments, knowing this list, especially in Changhai, Changsha and Guangzhou, as is my case, since I work in Loudi, in the province of Hunan.

Chinese in America often have big troubles in finding a good & affordable American hospital ... same probably for Americans here in China ... so, why don't we pursuade both US and Chinese Governments to establish some new age ones ...

I've been to Sichuan University Huaxi Hospital. I know that Emergency rooms are naturally dirty no matter where you are in the world. In addition, China has so many people that sometimes it is just hard to keep up with cleaning.
BUT, there is a but. I observed the sanitary conditions at Huaxi hospital when I was waiting for my friend who was a patient there. During my 1.5 hour wait, I observed a pool of urine right in the middle of the waiting room. No one came to clean it up the entire time I was there. Nurses and doctors all walking by without even caring. I noticed bloody hand prints on the plastic blinds covering the entrance to the emergency room. Everyone entering the hospital had to touch that plastic. So, everyone got a really good dose of whatever was in that person's blood. No one came to clean it the entire time I was there. I had my personal hand sanitizer, and I made sure not to touch anything or rub my eyes. I observed the doctors wearing their surgical masks and hair nets and booties that they slip on over their shoes, walking through the parking lot with the lunch they just bought down the street. They were returning back to work and were probably on their way to sew up some poor individual that now has a staff infection because the doctor didn't bother change their booties and protective layers while going for lunch. What's the purpose of wearing that stuff if you're just going to wear it outside too? They probably reuse that same stuff everyday. I went to the bathroom, there was no soap in the bathroom. I observed the doctors looking at the patients. They went from one patient to the next without washing their hands or wearing gloves. No soap in the bathroom means no one is washing their hands after touching all the stall doors. My point is that this study evaluates the hospitals on clinical strength, but did this include sanitary conditions and a doctor's ability to be prevent infections from happening. I wonder if they consider patient follow-up in this study. You go in with a sore throat, but you come out with hepatitis. What about private hospitals? Were they evaluated?
