“Toxic” Imported Belgian Chocolates Destroyed by Chinese Authorities
Jun 14, 2013 By eChinacities.com

In what seems to be an ongoing catfight between the EU and China over imported products (see last week’s “wine-dumping gate”), China has made the next move by claiming that a recent load of imported Belgian chocolates contained “toxic substances”. The chocolates were later destroyed by authorities.

Typically, there’s no info regarding what “toxic substances” were supposed to be present in the chocolates, and there’s also no clue as to the amount of chocolates destroyed or what particular brand they were.

Reportedly, there was a similar incident in 2008 when Beijing declared a shipment of Belgian chocolate to be “not suitable for human consumption”, which coincidentally came just after the EU banned Chinese soybean imports due to high levels of toxicity.

Schoolyard games indeed it seems.
