Large areas in southern China have seen heavy rainfall devastate towns, destroy houses, leave three people dead and many, many thousands relocated over safety concerns.

The province most severely affected by the large amounts of rain is Hunan, with one person dead and a further 461,800 people negatively impacted. Around 1,500 homes were destroyed and more than 50,000 were relocated by local authorities.

The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region also saw substantial damage with two lives lost, and just over 200,000 people affected. Around 1,200 houses had been either destroyed or damaged by the downpour and the local government estimates the total damaged caused to be around 199 million RMB.

Shenzhen was also left with a huge mess to clean up after 2,000 cars were left submerged under flood waters. The airport also took a massive hit, with 130 flights cancelled and a further 70 delayed by substantial amounts of time. We hope there weren’t too many negative incidents against blameless airport staff members.
