China’s Dongbei Hit by Devastating Floods; 85 Dead and 105 Missing

85 people have died and another 105 are reported missing following heavy rain and floods in China’s Dongbei region. By 16:00 on August 19, 3.737 million people in 111 counties across Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang Province have been affected by the floods, with some 60,000 houses destroyed and direct economic losses of 16.14 billion RMB.

Some trains have been halted at Changchun and Shenyang train stations, while other trains have been redirected. If you are planning to travel to or from the affected region, please check China’s official railway website (www.12306.cn) for status of departures and updates. Refunds are being issued for tickets of cancelled routes.
