Irony of Ironies: Chengguan Officers Spotted Being Street Vendor During Evening
Jun 18, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On June 15, a Weibo user uploaded two photos of what appeared to be the same man working as both a street vendor and as a Chengguan (or an “urban street management enforcer.”) We’re sure you’re familiar with what Chengguan’s are notorious for, so there’s no need to go into any explanation about how beautiful the irony is.

The photo soon garnered a lot of online attention, with the Wuhan Chengguan’s official Weibo account eventually confirming that the man was in fact a Chengguan employee surnamed Gui. They revealed that Gui, 33, had joined the Hongshan District Chengguan team in 2007, and was usually pretty adept at his job (as far as Chengguans go).

In the photo where Gui is depicted as a street vendor, a woman is also visible. It was later confirmed that the woman, Yang, was also employed in a Chengguan-related institution. The Hongshan Chengguan department have later claimed that the pair was undertaking undercover operations, presumably in an attempt to get deep into the minds of the vendors they so love to mistreat.
