Beijing Man Stabs Four in Carrefour; Kills 1

In what is a second deadly knife attack in Beijing in less than a week, a man stabbed four people on the second floor of the Carrefour in Xicheng District’s Maliandao on the afternoon of July 22.

Two of those stabbed were children (aged two and 12), with one woman dying of her injuries later on. The remaining three are still currently in hospital, with the two-year-old being in a critical condition.

After police took control of the situation, the suspect was apprehended and was identified as a local Beijing man surnamed Wang, born in 1963. After preliminary investigations, it has been found that Wang has a history of mental illness and spent time in a psychiatric hospital in Daxing District from September 5 2012 to January 11 2013.
