On June 6, the case regarding the 17 people who smuggled guns and ammunition into Zhejiang from 2010 to 2011 came to a close. Wang Ting, the primary defendant, was sentenced to death with a two year reprieve, while the other defendants received sentences ranging from 15 years to 19 months. Among the 17 sentenced, the average age was 33, with the youngest involved being 24.

In early 2010, Wang met an overseas Chinese man in the US named Lin Zhifu (who has already been detained by US police), and the two agreed to smuggle guns and ammunition from the US into Taizhou, Zhejiang.

From July 2010 to August 2011, the pair smuggled 48 guns and 4,500 bullets into China. According to sources, a total of 23 guns and 2,100 bullets were eventually sold to buyers in China. Lin Mei, the sister of Lin Jie, had the funds from Wang wired into her bank account, and accumulated a total of around 1.28 million RMB.
