Worrying Statistics on Second-hand Smoke in China
May 29, 2013 By eChinacities.com

There are currently around 350,000 million smokers in China—5 million of which are underage. In total, China accounts for 24.6 percent of the world’s smoking population. And on average, about 1 million people in China die due to smoking-related illnesses each year.

In light of these statistics, it is no surprise that exposure to second-hand smoke in China is also very high, with 88.5 percent of restaurant goers breathing in second-hand smoke, according to a recent report. Men ages 20-59 in public places and work areas were also said to be at incredibly high risk to the breathing in second-hand smoke.

Incidences of lung cancer in Beijing have seen a marked increase in recent years, from 40.29 per 100,000 in 2001 to 62.68 per 100,000 in 2013.
