The World Health Organization reported that more than 200,000 people die in China every year in car accidents. German international broadcaster WHO China representative Bernhard Schwartland told China Daily on May 6 that a large number of car accident fatalities in China were “completely avoidable.”

“In China,” Schwartland said, “More than 10,00 young people under the age of 15 die every day because of car accidents. Even more are seriously injured.” WHO reported in 2013 that nearly 276,000 people die in China every year in car accidents. In 2014, China's National Bureau of Statistics put forth that the number of fatal car accidents per 10,000 motor vehicles was 2.22%. In another report, the Bureau of Statistics said that there were 154.4 million vehicles in China. If these numbers are correct, this means that in 2014, there were only 34,292 car accident deaths in China- less than ¼ of the number given by the WHO.

The latest fad is allowing young children to stand with their upper body hanging out of the sun roof while daddy tears down the road. I see this nearly every day.
