Toy Boss Detained for Sending Bomb-Shaped Alarm Clocks to Customers

Mr Liu, the owner of a toy company in Shanghai, decided to be a Good Samaritan and post a total of 60 alarm clocks to give his customers as a gift for Children’s Day on June 1. Liu posted 51 alarm clocks to Shanghai, seven to Beijing, and one to Nanjing. However, concern was raised as the alarm clocks were designed to look like toy bombs.

The alarm clocks, which even featured the words “defuse” and “caution” on them, caused concern in Nanjing on June 3 when the post office informed the police that they had a package containing a “live bomb”. The Beijing packages arrived the next day which caused one entire post office to be evacuated and over 30 police to arrive on the scene.

During the afternoon of June 4, Liu was put into police custody under suspicion of posting “false dangerous goods”. Police are currently investigating the matter further.
