The Tesla Model 3 is coming to China, and the company plans to localize production within the next three years.

The new Tesla Model 3 is listed at $35,000 (about 228,000 Yuan). Global pricing was recently announced on the company’s official website. Chinese customers must pay a deposit of $8,000 to reserve the change to purchase a vehicle. The deposit for U.S. customers is $1,000.

Tesla will accept reservations for the Tesla Model 3 starting March 31. There are two ways customers can reserve a vehicle. Bookings can be made in person at a Tesla store or online on Tesla’s official website.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on his trip to China this past October that the company hopes to localize production in China within three years. The Model 3 will be the first Tesla vehicle to be localized in China.

Tesla China head Zhu Xiaotong confirmed in an interview yesterday that the company hopes to localize production in China as soon as possible and is investigating sites for factories.

Tesla factories is China would reduce the current price of the vehicle within the country. Shipping costs and import duties would be slashed, and the final price would be reduced by one third. Zhu said that it is difficult to give an exact estimate of the sale price of a Model 3 produced in China.

I would love to buy one if the price wasn't so high. But now that it's more affordable than previously, I think I can save to buy one within the next year or two. I specifically chose not to have a car in China because of the cost of maintenance and such.
