Students Protest Animal Cruelty…By Sticking Thousands of Needles in Stuffed Animals

Student creativity seems to be booming of late in China, with the recent romantic Shanghai boy’s Rubik’s Cube Weibo stunt also giving us a glimmer of hope that the Chinese education machine isn’t as soul-destroying as it sounds.

On March 28, students from Shenyang University gathered at a shopping center to exhibit crafts which featured stuffed animals (with the fur removed) covered with needles.

There were twelve works in total made by 36 students that reportedly took over 100 days to make. For the poor soul who had to count, around 550,000 needles were used to make the not-so-cuddly cuties, with the needles carefully inserted into the bodies of the stuffed animals in what is apparently an attempt to speak out against animal cruelty…
