Shenzhen Security Guard Swallowed Up in Yet Another “Hole” Incident
Mar 28, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Though the circumstances of random holes appearing are usually pretty mysterious, this time around, it’s pretty straightforward (dodgy construction, what else). A security guard in Shenzhen was swallowed up by a hole forming at a construction site near the Jingzhou Plaza in Shenzhen’s Futian District on March 26.

After seeing the ground collapse, local security guard Yang Xibin and three other brave colleagues began rounding up nearby residents in an evacuation attempt. Unfortunately, the ground completely gave way as Yang was nearby, and he fell into a pit that was six meters wide and roughly four floors deep. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Apparently, a 48-storey high building was in the process of being built just four meters away from the Jingzhou Plaza and the workers weren’t careful about where they were digging. Mr. Yang, an office worker on the second floor, said “Since they started the construction of that building all of us noticed that the chairs and desks were vibrating clearly each time they were digging.”
