Mysterious “Bottomless Pit” Appears in Sichuan
Mar 04, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Holes are something that we’re used to seeing in China, whether they are in roads, shoes, or in the pockets of newly bought trousers from the local market. A giant 20 meter-wide hole in the outskirts of Sichuan’s Guangyuan city has recently captured the attention of many Chinese media sources, largely due to the widespread unknowingness of its origins. The circular hole, which appeared in the rural Lizhou District of the city is, according to the locals, “bottomless.” The hole reportedly began to take shape in September 2012 after a series of “rumbling sounds” were heard during the night.
