The People’s Procuratorate of Nanshan District, Shenzhen, announced in a recent statement that five students from Shenzhen Polytechnic and Jiangmen Preschool Teacher’s school were arrested for smuggling guns and ammunition from Hong Kong to Shenzhen.

They smuggled 41 air guns and more than 3,000 lead bullets from Hong Kong, after getting in touch with a gun dealer, surnamed Li, online. Li offered to pay them 550 RMB for every air gun delivered, and 1,200 RMB for long-barreled guns.

The students recruited others to help them and one even started a business finding buyers online and hiring others to smuggle them.

According to China’s smuggling laws, smuggling more than five non military guns can get you a sentence of at least seven years, whilst anyone found smuggling more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition is punishable by life imprisonment.
