The most appealing Chinese cities are Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Kunming, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Tianjin, Xiamen and Qingdao (in that order), according to the “2012 Amazing China” survey taken by expats living here.
Jinan and Chengdu gained top marks in the “environment policy” category, while Shenyang and Hefei were seen by expats as having the best “political environments”. Chongqing and Zhengzhou were seen as top places for work, and expats also ranked Dalian and Wuhan highly in terms of living environment.
The survey took place from November 9-12, sampled 170,540 expats, and is the first survey of its kind in China.

Im not a fan of Beijing either. I suspect many westerners are there because there are lots of jobs there, not because they love the city. Personally the places I hate the most being: Wuhan, Beijing, Nanjing and Fu'an (Fujian) The places I love the most being: Fuyang (south of Hangzhou), Xiamen, Sanya (in winter), Hong Kong and Ningde (Fujian) Shanghai is sort of nice and sort of not. somewhere I will work if I have to but try not to actively seek going there.

Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing . Shoult be like this. Beijing is the worst from all this 3 . A lot of peoples at anytime at any hour, really tired of this city. I went to Shenzhen where I want to move also soon, it gave me a great feeling and can breathing there anywhere ! Not so crowd, not polution, great warm weather, is great city and so much vegetation and palms, I love it !
