Local authorities in Karamay, a city in north western Xinjiang Province, have banned people with beards and veils from taking local buses during an annual sporting event to be held in the city until August 20.
Five types of passengers will be prohibited from boarding buses- people wearing veils, people with long beards, people wearing head scarves and people wearing the jilbab, a loose fitting garment embroidered with Islamic symbols.
The new regulation has drawn heavy criticism from the Uyghur diaspora, who have condemned the move as “endorsing an openly racist and discriminatory policy”.

While I am not one for wars and killing and certainly do not agree with his involvement with Ukraine, let us have a look at the Russian leader's speech on August 04, 2013. Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia, which I feel is brilliant. Roughly translated, he said: "In Russia live like Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, and live the life of Muslim's then we advise them to go to those places where that's the state law. Russia does not need Muslim minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'. We will not tolerate disrespect of our Russian culture. We had better learn from the suicides of America , England , Holland and France , if we are to survive as a nation. The Muslims are taking over those countries and they will not take over Russia .. The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of Sharia Law and Muslims. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the Russian national interest first, observing that the Muslims Minorities Are Not Russians." So I say to those complaining, you are in China and in China do as Chinese do or stay out. It is that simple. Again, good for China for making such laws to protect Chinese people's lives and interests from within China.

Haha, the ironic thing about this is the fact all of the devastating insider bus attacks (mainly gasoline burnings) over the last year -- in Guangdong, Hunan, Sichuan and an especially deadly one in Fujian that killed nearly 50 people -- have been from HAN Chinese. So by their logic in other provinces they need to ban short fat guys with spiked hair or shaved heads, girls with whitening or cheek-reddening facial makeup, both wearing random English T-shirts they don't understand and anything else that "looks too Han" for comfort :)

Both Han and Uyghur groups have had individuals who have committed violent acts against the general public in China that can be deemed as terrorist attacks. In my opinion, oppression of any populace leads to violent acts whether random or targeted, especially when that country in question has a system that refuses to deliver justice and reprieve to its people

NAME your sources for that. I can name mine: The China Daily, Agence France-Presse & this very site that reported on them earlier. But you may also G00gle the Hangzhou, Guangzhou, & other mentioned bus burnings for even more since you obviously never read about them. The Chinese government themselves cites & names them as Han Chinese on those reports. So you blatantly lied about having researched that. Also, I never even suggested I don't like China. So of course I'm staying. So you also pulled that out of nowhere. Finally, a country that gets it right. I 100% agree with China for these rules. Much better than the way USA pussyfoots around the issues at home. This is not about religion, this is about a government trying to protect the citizens. In some countries, hoodies, backwards hats, and other gangsta style outfits are forbidden in shopping malls in order to promote safe environments. Here, I see it being the same. If you cannot see the face of the person in front of you because that person is dressed like a ninja or a member of the KKK or Death Eaters or whatever, it can be very frightening to anyone, especially our young. Sorry to those who disagree with my sentiment but until certain groups of people stop attacking normal humans in buses and crowded places, making videos about violence in the name of some almighty diety, and demanding that people do whatever they say we should do because they are the only one's correct, this issue will never go away. It gives others a certain sense of comfort that if they can identify the face and know what is underneath the clothing, that it is a little safer to take the bus or whatever. Furthermore, to those apologists and those who complain this is unfair, go out there and prove the rest of the world wrong. Do something about it to win support, like fight the criminal murderers and condemn them publicly and with the same anger as the victims they have left behind. If I knew my neighbor was in the trenchcoat mafia, for example, and was about to whack out a whole school of kids, surely I'd do my bit to prevent this if I could. As Redguard said, China would crush them and say sorry later, if anyone dared bat an eye in the wrong way. And why not, if someone threatens my family, my way of life, for no reason at all, I would do the exact same.

how would you feel if your family was one of those people?...secondl its always nice not to forget ones roots....remember one thing it was pakistan that helped china become what it is today...or u would still be riding a bicycle...guess your history teacher never told u that in the 5000 year history class,,,...and china became because of guandong where the first industries were made.. the west came here to get cheap labor and no laws...all this im beijing and im shanghainese is actually crap..the rest of china was just freeloaders tagging along for the ride until the late 80;s...oh and guess wat...china has only 5 more years to go...then the audi ur driving will be gone since 80 % of personal wealth will be lost,,maybe if you went to a place called a university for "higher education" in economics you would know....,cuz all the industry is moving out already,,and china is not a self sufficient country,.. im a pakistani, but in my point of view as a financial analyst there are very few countries capable of that...and on top being america...it was truly a great country untill the cold war.where every one with an idea and a will had an opportunity...thanks to the war on terrorism... or as the world calls it the war for carbon fuel that is also lost.... read a book called "HOT, FLAT and CROWDED"...an american author i forgot his name...
