Pollution is Putting Tourists Off China

Pollution is Putting Tourists Off China
Oct 21, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A report on Chinese travel published on October 20 titled “2014 China Foreign Visitor Development Year Report” concluded that in 2013, China received 129,077,800 tourists, a decrease of 2.51 percent compared to last year. Visitors on a stopover before traveling to a third country totaled 55,685,000, a decrease of 3.53 percent.

As foreign tourists account for over twenty percent of all border entries into the country, the decline in inbound tourists is believed to be majorly influenced by pollution and poor air quality.

China’s inbound tourism market is ranked fourth in the world, after France, the United States and Spain; China’s main source of tourists are Korea, Japan, Russia and the US.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. Surely the trend will only increase.

No, no, no. Tourists ADMIRE China's pollution. Beijing's smog is of a much higher caliber than the inferior American sort. Not only is it a pleasant off-white colour - similar to that of a tasteful business card - but even produces the same feeling in the throat as a tasteful business card would. China's excellent pollution has drawn such praise as "China is very wonderful!" (spoken by an authentic foreign person).
