China Accounts for One-Third of World’s Middle Class; Mainland Fourth Wealthiest in World

According to a report published by the Credit Suisse Group on October 14 entitled “Global Wealth Report 2014” the number of people in the middle class category with a personal wealth between 10,000 USD and 100,000 USD is now 1 billion people, with a third of them being Chinese.

According to the report, the Chinese person’s average net asset has increased rapidly since 2000, from 5,670 USD to an average of 21,300 USD per person in 2014, mainly as a result of the appreciation of the RMB. Total Chinese household wealth is third highest in the world, with Japan taking up the second spot with 8% more, and France in fourth place with 44% less.

In global terms, the highest amount of wealth lies in Northern America, where wealth increased 11.4% compared to last year, to 91 trillion USD, about 34.7% of the world’s wealth. Europe comes in number two, at 85.2 trillion USD; and 32.4% of the world’s wealth, and the Chinese mainland comes fourth; at 8.1% of the world’s wealth.

China is proud to have about 1/8 (generous estimate) and less than 1/10 the wealth. UK is very impressive. Either way it is an improvement. Could you imagine how wealthy China would be if they went Democratic 60 years ago.
