Beijing is still in the running to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee released evaluation reports today on all of the candidate cities.

In March, the IOC visited potential Olympic sites in Beijing and Zhangjiakou to evaluate them for the report.

The report on Beijing highlights the government and public support behind the city's Olympic bid. More than 90% of Chinese support Beijing's bid.

The Chinese government plans to promote winter sports so that by 2022, “winter sports will become common among the people.” The government added that this will also help to “improve the physical health of all citizens.”

The government hopes to have 300 million people involved in winter spots by 2022. “The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will be a strong force for the comprehensive development of sports and cultural tourism. In this, Beijing and Zhangjiakou can create a new model of sustainable development.”

The report notes that Beijing is financially secure and has a huge market. Beijing's bid could help the Winter Olympics grow its market and give its partners great opportunities.

The Committee also mentioned Beijing's fast and efficient transportation, world-class hotels, fine dining, and tourist sites.

The host of the 2022 Winter Olympics will be announced in Kuala Lumpur at the 128th plenary meeting of the International Olympic Committee on July 31.

I didn't think that China would even want any international winter events cos it'll showcase the heavy pollution that comes in winter in the north

No they don't deserve it. China is the most anti foreign country I've ever lived in. Only last week I was told I couldn't enter a club because I was a foreigner. Now, do-gooders on this website will be very quick to brand me a racist. I'm not. In Australia we bend over backwards to accommodate the Chinese. The Chinese are the real racists. Where else on earth have you read employment classifieds where it's totally acceptable to specify "no blacks" as part of the selection criteria? You wouldn't. personally, I wouldn't let them host a dancing cucumber tournament.
