The Ministry of Education has released a notice warning college professors of increasing vigilance surrounding seven types of inappropriate behaviours, the China Daily reports. Gu Mingyuan, the honourary chairman of the Chinese Society of Education stressed the importance of professors in educational institution.

Amongst these are bribery, sexual harassment and student-teacher relationships (the prevalence of which recently infuriated students at various universities leading to action on campuses).

The notice comes after the Chinese media’s exposure of sex scandals and corruption involving university professors at Xiamen University and Fudan University, and warns professors that they will face dire consequences upon violating the regulations: warnings, a demerit on their employment records, demotion, suspension, termination and even being handed over to the judicial authorities.
