Man’s “Farting” Shoes Causes Date to Go Horribly Wrong

There can be many reasons why dates can go wrong, though men’s shoes don’t often come into the mix. Yet this is exactly what happened to 29-year-old Wuhan man, Yang, who recently returned to complain to a shoe shop owner after the woman he was on a blind date with left him early—she was apparently too embarrassed by the obscene farting sounds his new shoes were making.

Prior to the date, Yang thought it best to try and make a good impression by showing up in a brand-spanking new pair of leather shoes, which he bought from local shop Heshifang. An employee told Yang that the shoes, which cost 286 RMB, had particularly good ventilation, and presumably made a soft squeaking sound every time the wearer took a step. Given Wuhan’s relentless summer heat and the potential nightmare of showing up to his date with smelly feet, Yang decided they were the perfect choice.

It was on May 19 that a colleague had arranged the blind date for Yang with a woman named Liu. Initially, the date was going well. They appeared to strike up a chord in conversation, and decided to go for a stroll in nearby Tan Xinpei Park. After getting on the bus to the park however, Yang’s shoes suddenly began letting out a fart-like sound every time he took a step. Many surrounding passengers quickly became suspicious as to the origin of the sound, and Yang soon found himself under the curious gaze of others. Yang felt embarrassed, though noticed that Liu’s face was redder than his. Before he knew what to say, she turned around and got off the bus leaving poor old Yang and his farting shoes all alone.

A fuming Yang then went back to the shoe store demanding his money back, presumably on the grounds that he had just experienced an epic loss of face. After being refused any sort of refund or compensation from the store, Yang then took his complaint to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The shoe factory that produced the shoes then explained that the fart sound which cost him his date was caused by his fiber socks rubbing up against the insole.

After coordinating with the store, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry arranged for Yang to receive a new insole, while the store manager offered an apology to Yang for not having the employee inform him of the potential embarrassing sounds that the shoes could make.

Hang on! Let me get this straight. You can take a dump, urinate and spit in the street without attracting any attention but a farting sound upsets the sensibilities of the general Chinese population? Oh, come on?

Haha! I was just about to say the same thing! Nose picking in public places also doesn't seem to bother anyone. Let's hope this woman doesn't accidentally walk into a male toilet at a Chinese airport - the farting sounds there will blow her head off her shoulders.
