A humanoid robot resembling Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe “apologized” to Chinese at China's 2015 International Robot Exhibition in Shanghai.

Weibo users posted videos showing the life-like Abe robot bowing to visitors and “apologizing.” The robot attracted a number of curious onlookers, excited to take photos with robot Abe.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII. The Japanese media has reported that Abe plans to express his “deep remorse,” over the war but will not “apologize,” explicitly.

it is interesting that it is ok for the Chinese to insult a foreign leader like this, but if another country did the same thing to any Chinese leader there would be 'hurt feelings' and demands for apologies (thought: maybe another robot could do this). If you want to be taken seriously and treated with respect, at least do the same with others. China is still not out of 'playground' mentality.

This is how the robot wars start. A Chinese robot being made to lose face perpetually and for no reason. I'm getting my danish visa to Greenland ready

It is easier to change a zebra's stripes than teaching a 5000 years old rabies dog new tricks, especially when it thinks its old tricks are working out without a glitch, and has every intend to taste what imperialism is like, on the other end this time.

I was gonna advise doing something friendly for a change but then I remembered they had no ally anyway. So yeah, sure, keep pissing the Japanese with robots. That sounds like a super safe strategy. I'm not quite sure they build theirs to bend and speak though.

This is a waste of talents, making apologizing Japanese politicians. The quality is good enough. They might be better off making robotic wives to compensate for the gender imbalance in this country. Just think how much money could be made off this. Robotic wives don't need to be spoiled and demand houses and BMWs to cry in the back of just for marriage. It would also help with population reduction while keeping guys socially stable, a bit better..... just thinking out loud.

Why should he apologize for what he did not do? Should I apologize for everything my government does? Did the CCP apologize for what it did to Chinese people?

He should apologise for his denial of the Nanjing Massacre, and being part of the Nippon Kaigi (who aim to paint Japan as the victim of a war of liberation which they lost) for a start. Whether the CCP apologise or not is rather immaterial. Trying to claim it is important makes you the same as the wumao's who always try to turn the discussion to America whenever something happens in China.

For decades the Australian Government refused to apologise to the Aboriginals for their treatment after the British arrived until Kevin Rudd was elected and he very quickly made a public apology for what the past governments did. He was not responsible for what happened but he understood that as the leader of our nation it was his duty to acknowledge what had occured and apologise for it because it was a horrible thing that happened and it needed to be officially recongised and apologised for by the government. The same is true here.

I think comparing him to Wumao's is a false comparison. Endless shame and guilt tripping of a culture for sins of a people and a culture that are but a shadow of today's world is not just in my opinion. How would it go? Abe issues a big apology, the Diet makes a resolution condemning the war acts, and the centuries of ancestor worship involving the war dead are revoked for the vets of WWII... ok, China will accept that? Right? Does that seem like anything the party or any grievance mongering government ever accepts? Enough is never enough, and before you know it China will be expecting more and more concessions for any next level of Japanese or anyone's apology... because we aka the Party would not want to lose that propaganda tool, now would we? Sure, have Abe apologize, but with that apology and any great apology from the government should be another statement of "now let's get the fuck over this & stop demonizing us for barbarism committed several generations go, fucking right now"

As I pointed out (and you appear to have ignored) Abe should apologise for the things he has done personally and stop doing them! I tend to agree with mhager that someone should also apologise for the war itself but I tend to feel that it is much more important that Abe apologises for the things he has actually done himself.
