KFC Sales Drop by 16% in Wake of H7N9 Outbreak

As of April 12, 38 people have now been infected with the H7N9 bird flu virus. The virus has claimed ten lives, with only one patient making a full recovery. In the wake of the outbreak, it seems that China’s breeding industry isn’t the only one to have been affected—fast food giant KFC has also seen a substantial drop in sales as of late.

According to a report from the Economic Voice, after already having taken a hit with the recent “instant chicken” scandal, the H7N9 outbreak is doing KFC no favors, with sales falling by 16% during the month of March. KFC’s parent company Yum! Brands confirmed these figures in an announcement on April 12.
