Chinese Authorities Approve New Anti-H7N9 Drug

In lieu of the recent outbreak of the H7N9 bird flu that has infected 21 people (as of April 7), The China State Food and Drug Supervision Administration approved the use of an experimental antiviral drug called Peramivir on April 5.

The new drug is said to fight influenza virus, and has proven effective against the influenza A and B viruses (H7N9 belongs to the A group of influenza viruses).

China now joins the United States, Japan, and South Korea as one of the few countries to approve the use of Peramivir.
