A woman in Jiangsu Province recently swallowed a toothbrush while talking on the phone, in what can only be described as a freak accident.

On September 7, 25 year old Ms. Jiang from Yangzhou, got up in the morning and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth, just like any other morning. After a while her phone rang so Ms. Jiang took the call and spoke while brushing. This turned out to be a big mistake however.

At one point during the conversation, Ms. Jiang put the toothbrush deep into her mouth. During a moment of excitement and presumably laughter, the toothbrush managed to somehow “slip down her throat” down into her stomach. Freaked out, she immediately rushed to the hospital where it took doctors and hour and a half to remove the toothbrush from her stomach. Despite getting quite the fright, Ms. Jiang still managed to find the humor in the whole incident: “I’m never brushing my teeth again. From now on I’ll only use mouthwash,” she jested.
