It's Better to Be a Top Executive in Shanghai than in Hong Kong
Mar 16, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Global consulting firm Towers Watson recently released statistics on executive salaries in the Asia-Pacific region. The average salary for mid-level and senior managers was the highest in Singapore. Hong Kong managers made the second highest salaries and Shanghai managers made the third highest salaries. Interestingly, the executive pay gap for managers in Hong Kong and Shanghai seems to be narrowing with Hong Kong salaries only 10 percent higher than Shanghai salaries. The restructuring and rapid development of the Mainland economy has created more room for the recruitment of high-level talent.

From 2014 to 2015, basic salaries in Singapore and Hong Kong increased by 3% and 4% respectively while salaries for high level management increased by 6% and 8% respectively. In 2014, the average executive salary in Singapore was 586,000 US dollars (3.67 million Yuan) while the average executive salary in Hong Kong was 445,000 US dollars (2.79 million Yuan). Singapore executive managers made a 31% higher salary than those working in Hong Kong. However, Shanghai executives only made about 10% less than managers in Hong Kong. With lower cost of living, it seems to be more profitable to be a top executive in Shanghai.
