Jun 10, 2014 By eChinacities.com

This morning, June 10, an unemployed man entered a primary school in Qianjiang, Hubei Province armed with a knife and explosives and held a class of six year old children hostage. The man allegedly threatened the third grade teacher with a knife, whilst clutching onto homemade explosives.

Police were called to the scene and the man was shot dead by officers. The children and the teacher were unharmed; however the police safely evacuated the children and staff from the school as the man was still clutching the explosives when he was shot.

The police are currently investigating the identity of the man and possible motives for the crime.

Oh dear. Qianjiang is a place close to my heart. Lived there from 2001-2003 and still visit often. Really good people, for the most part. The city is changing fast though. I was there over May holiday and surprised to see huge sky scraper apartment blocks under construction.
