China is bracing itself for the second typhoon in a week as Typhoon Matmo heads north-west towards Taiwan and the eastern mainland coast. Fujian and Zhejiang provinces are forecast to be worst hit by the hurricane.

Matmo is due to make landfall in Taiwan tonight, before making a second landfall on the south-east coast. Taiwan’s authorities have been warned to expect flooding, torrential rainfall and mudslides.

Meanwhile, temperatures across the country are set to soar with provinces from Xinjiang to Chengdu expecting the mercury to hit 35-39 degrees.
