Hidden Camera Found in Bedroom at Shaolin Temple; Reignites Old Rumors
Jul 17, 2013 By eChinacities.com

It was recently revealed that hidden cameras were placed in the bedroom of the abbot at Shaolin Temple. One such camera was reportedly facing the abbot’s bed.

While it is still unknown who planted the camera and why, one popular theory is that it is related to controversial rumors about the abbot’s past. The abbot, Shi Yongxin, reportedly kept a mistress (who was a Peking University student) back in 2011 and had 3 billion USD stored in offshore accounts. News spread that Shi had villas in Germany and the US, and also had an affair with a big-name celebrity. Shi also reportedly has an illegitimate son who lives with his mother in Germany.

Regarding the origins of these rumors, some have speculated that Shi upset local officials when he was seen taking center stage in photos with various important leaders, including Vladimir Putin back in 2006. Others have been disgruntled at the abbot’s role in commercializing Shaolin Temple. Further rumors have pointed the finger at a construction project between local officials and a Hong Kong institution that went awry.
