Heavy Rains to Continue: 26 Dead, 3 Missing in South China

South China will continue to be battered by heavy rainfall and flooding over the next three days according to the Shanghai Daily. The storms which so far have caused the deaths of 26 people have been troubling central and southern China since early last week.

In the past five days alone, the storms have been directly responsible for 4 billion RMB’s worth of damage; 8,700 houses and 42,000 hectares of crops have been destroyed, whilst 66,000 homes have sustained damage.

337,000 people have been evacuated, with 115,000 in urgent need of emergency supplies as a result of the floods. The majority of the fatalities occurred in Hunan province, although Jiangxi and Fujian were also heavily affected. Three people are still missing.
