H7N9 Count Rises to 7; 4 in Critical Condition in Jiangsu

Four more people in Jiangsu are in critical condition following the recently reported outbreak of the H7N9 bird flu virus, according to the Health Department of Jiangsu Province.

One of the people infected, a 45-year-old woman named Xu from Nanjing, reportedly worked as a poultry butcher at a local market. The other three, a 48-year-old woman named Sang, an 83-year-old man named Shen, and a 32-year-old woman named Zhang, are from Suqian, Suzhou, and Changzhou respectively. Sang, the only one of the three who had a job, worked in plate production.

This brings the total number of people in China infected with the H7N9 virus to seven, with two already reported dead.

To date, all those reported as infected with the H7N9 virus have resided in Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Anhui.
