The Ministry of Environmental Protection announced today that it has developed new standards for air quality in Chinese cities.

Out of 161 cities monitored in 2014, 16 met the new standards.

The Ministry also monitored precipitation in 470 cities, regions and counties and found that 29.8% of rain in Chinese cities is acid rain.

The statistics were released in the Ministry’s “2014 China Environmental Bulletin.”

The-Final-Say

This is some piece of journalism! Should I stay tuned for the next article? Is there a sequel? And these 16 cities are?

This is proof the Party's anti pollution strategy is working. Soon many Chinese cities will be on a par with some European metropolises like Paris and London.

What are these so called "new standards" for measuring air quality? The Chinese version of this article is quite detailed. Why do we only get a half arsed translation? Unless these statistics can be backed up with evidence it's simply not true.

30% of rain in China is acid rain?! And that is okay?... because that sounds pretty bad to me. The article mentions it like it ain't no thing!

i read that some place in NZ was upset because they had a week of air in the 50s. but be happy with decent air on average for some cities, China. Well done. "we're somewhat OK in some places! but only if you average it out and use our own safety level standards!"
