China Issues New Plan to Control Water Pollution
Apr 17, 2015 By eChinacities.com

The State Council recently issued the “Water Pollution Prevention Action Plan,” in order to better combat water pollution in China. The plan focuses on seven major river valleys including the Yangtze, Yellow and Pearl. The plan states that by 2020, 70% of the water in the major river valleys should be Class III ratio or better. Class III ratio promotes a healthy balance for fish and wildlife, while Class I is potable. Black, smelly polluted water will make up less than 10% of urban water sources and 93% of urban drinking water will be Class III or better.

By 2030, 75% of water in seven key river valleys in China should be clean, and dark foul-smelling water will be completely eliminated within urban areas. 95% of the water within urban areas should be at Class III ratio or better.
