Foreigners in Shanghai have been in the news a lot of late, though at least this tale of yet another residential nightmare doesn’t involve our crying French friend from the other week.

During the afternoon of June 25, a foreign woman who lives on Xinjing Zhenquan Lukou in Shanghai’s Changning District was locked outside her window after it slammed shut when she was cleaning it.

The woman then hung on to the exterior unit of her apartment’s air conditioner, and began sweating profusely in panic. Luckily, there were a set of bars between her and the ground, so she had no chance of falling.

Down below, an elderly local heard the shouting of the woman from the window. It was then that he rushed to contact the local resident committee for help. Despite getting hold of the landlord relatively quickly, it was found that she was without any keys, and was unable to rescue the stranded foreigner.

Later, a locksmith was called to the scene to bust into the apartment and assist the foreign woman.
