A foreign man was caught with 144 undeclared iPhones at Beijing Capital Airport. The phones were seized by Beijing customs officials and later verified as real.

The man did not declare any goods at Beijing customs, but his luggage was physically inspected by customs officials who found 144 iPhones in his bag. It has been reported that the issue the Beijing customs has run into the most in recent months has been large numbers of undeclared iPhones.

China Customs would like to remind travelers that they should take the initiative to declare items when entering the country. Travelers caught carrying undeclared items above a certain value will be fined.

Foreigners who violate Beijing customs policies to evade taxes are fined 30% to 2X the evaded tax payment. This administrative penalty is given in order to pay the necessary import duties and taxes on goods brought into the country.
