Flight Delays and Cancellations Expected to Last Until August 15

Flight delays and cancellations in major airports across Eastern China are to be expected until August 15. According to the Beijing News, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has ordered domestic airlines to limit the number of flights operating in Chinese airspace.

The delays have affected 12 airports in east and central China, including Shanghai’s Hongqiao and Pudong and airports in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wuxi, Lianyungang Hefei, Jinan, Qingdao, Wuhan and Zhengzhou.

Many media outlets have speculated that the reason for the restrictions is military exercises although authorities haven’t confirmed this.

This news comes after nearly 200 flights were cancelled and 120 flights were delayed without explanation on Monday at Shanghai’s two airports.

Passengers planning to travel between now and August 15 are being advised to contact their carrier for more information.
