At around 9:14 on the morning of October 27, a fire broke out at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. The fire occurred near the entrance to a passageway of Area B in the main hall.

The major fire erupted at an area where workers were facilitating an advertising display. It may be that an accident involving the electrical welding of the advertisements resulted in the fire breaking out. The incident resulted in ten people being treated for smoke inhalation and the complete gutting of a famous brand name clothing store. No deaths were reported.

As a result of the fire, 26 flights were delayed from either arriving or leaving the airport, a move that delayed more than 4000 passengers. By 15:00 normal operations had resumed at Baiyun Airport.
