Drugs are Bad…Mmkaay- Guangdong Villager in Opium Poppy Bust

Given China’s ultra-strict laws on drug possession and distribution, you’d have to be pretty crazy to grow opium poppies on your land.

A man named Qiu, who is a villager of Meihua Country in Guangdong’s Shaoguan City, is currently on the run after police discovered a plot of over almost 2,000 opium poppies growing in his field.

The plants, which were subsequently destroyed by the anti-drug authorities, were reportedly unknown to be opium poppies by the locals, who were apparently impressed by the beauty of the flowers.

I remember growing up and having poppys growing wild in the back yard. How can they be that bad. Except when people come and steal them, for some strange reason.
