China Increases Regulation of Health-Related TV

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television are at it again. This time, health-related TV is getting more strictly regulated in an effort to improve standards and prevent false advertising.

The board agreed that health-related TV shows need to be made more scientific, and are addressing this by ruling that such shows can only be permitted to be produced by TV station personnel, and banning advertisements from being shown at the same time.

As popularity of medical TV shows has increased, regulators fear that some stations exaggerate the effects of medicine in order to make a profit. Therefore, those offering advice now need to be qualified to do so, and celebrities will also no longer be permitted to endorse products on TV.
