A fire on a bus in Xiamen which occurred around 18:20 on June 7 has resulted in the death of 47 people. The fire occurred when the bus was driving down Jinshan Jiedao in Xiamen’s Huli District, and was not put out until 18:45. There were reportedly 80 passengers on the bus; 47 of which were killed and 34 of which were seriously injured.
Experts on the scene stated that the tires of the bus were normal and that the fire was not caused by a failure of equipment. The Ministry of Public Security has referred to the incident as “a serious criminal case”. According to the latest update, arson was to blame for the fire and the suspect, a 60 year old man named Chen Shuizong, is said to be among the dead.
