On February 6, Beijing Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission released the news that on February 4 a second person was admitted to hospital suffering from the H7N9 bird flu virus. It is believed that the man caught the virus after slaughtering 20 chickens for a market. He is currently being treated at Ditan hospital and is in critical condition.

The first victim was admitted to hospital on January 23 and died of the virus on January 30. With many people heading back to Beijing after the holidays it is likely that the capital will see more cases of infection.
