According to a report by Beijing’s Bureau of Statistics, published in September 2013, Beijing population in 2012 was 20,693,000. The number of permanent residents was recorded at about 13 million with temporary residents near to 8 million. When compared to 2011 statistics, the report noted that last year 416,000 people left Beijing.

The report also noted that Xicheng is the richest district with average annual salaries standing at around 120,000 RMB. In Daxing, for every hundred families there are 57 cars – the highest ratio in Beijing. Reports suggest that Daxing’s car ownership is related to wealth earned through demolition compensation.
