Beijing Now Has First Highrise Escape Pod, Can Evacuate 250 People/Hour

Wanda Plaza, in Beijing Chaoyang District, recently revealed the city’s first escape pod mounted on the rooftop of a highrise building. The pod, installed on the 19th floor of the building, can evacuate one person every 1 minute and 36 seconds and can help a total of 250 to safety in an hour.

The orange escape pod is 2 meters squared and can take 6 people at a time with a weight capacity of 480 kg. The 19th floor of the Wanda plaza is 100 meters off the ground. The pod cost a whopping 2 million RMB to install, but we still hope they don’t ever have to use it.
