Shanghai municipal government recognized fifty expats from 22 countries for their large contributions to Shanghai’s development. They received the Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award – Magnolia because that is the city’s official flower.

The award was created in 1989 to honor foreigners contributing to the social and economic development of Shanghai. The directors of the awards expressed their hope for those recognized by the award to continue their support for Shanghai.

The director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government said that “A great number of foreign nationals study, work or live in Shanghai and bring to the city diverse cultures. They make Shanghai their second home and actively promote cooperation with the rest of the world in a wide range of areas, contributing to the city’s social, economic and cultural development.”

Over the past 25 years, more than 900 foreigners have received the award.
