9.12 Million Students in China to Take Gaokao on Jun 7
Jun 07, 2013 By eChinacities.com

It’s an important time for high-school students across China, as 9.12 million students will be taking the dreaded “Gaokao” test today as they officially kick off for 2013.

There are around 30,000 less students partaking in the Gaokao than last year; with 2013 being the fifth year running where the number of Gaokao participants has dropped. Analysts believe that the decline is related to the decreasing rate of birth in China as well as the increasing amounts of middle and high school students studying overseas.

Additionally, this year is the first time that migrant children are able to take the Gaokao in the city where they are living.
