7 Passengers Kicked Off Xi’an-Bound Flight as “Plane Was Too Heavy”

Ah aircraft antics in China…do they ever end?

One flight – the Joy Air JR1538 flight from Wuhan to Xi’an to be precise – had to kick off seven passengers before takeoff because the plane was “overweight”.

Prior to takeoff, the aircraft in question, which was a Xinzhou-60, received orders from Joy Air that seven passengers had to get off the plane to lighten the load. Staff were quick to explain the situation to passengers and promised that the seven who got off would have their seats upgraded for the next flight.

One employee stated that there was no way the plane could have been “too heavy to fly” as all the passengers had seats, and speculated that the orders had something to do with typhoon Soulik. At the time, wind strength across Hubei province was noticeably high, which would have made flying a fully-seated plane a risky affair.

So instead of admitting the effects of a nearby typhoon, they chose to subtly hint that some passengers are too heavy. Nice move Joy Air.

lightend

I didn't know they had first class on those planes. Perhaps being 'upgraded' just means they sit at the front of the plane next flight.
