The Guangzhou government is facing criticism after many districts in the city flooded in the torrential downpours, despite a recent upgrade to the city’s drainage systems that cost a whopping 400 Million RMB.

The rain has caused mayhem in the city, paralyzed transportation systems and forced train lines to run reduced services. Haizhu and Nanhu Street, among others, suffered record flooding.

Residents were forced to wade through knee high water in many other areas of the city after the local meteorological bureau issued a red alert for the torrential rain.

It wasn't that bad for me. On the day of the red storm downpour, I was worried that I wouldn't come back home. The news said the water runs knee high and there is a high level of rain. On the metro, the announcement said there's water on the tracks. But when I went on the metro, is was on time and walking back home wasn't a problem except for a few puddle.
