Xinhua reported today that the China's Women's Federation's most recent survey showed that out of 270 million Chinese households, 30% reported the existence of domestic violence. 16% of women surveyed said that they had treated violently by their spouses, and 14.4% of men said that they had abused their spouses. Every year in China, 400,000 families break up: 25% due to issues of domestic violence. It is predicted that up to 47.1% of divorces are a result of domestic violence towards women.

Children are also victims of domestic violence. The Women's Federation published a survey in 2013 that said that the child abuse in China is a very serious issue. 43.3% of children aged 10 to 17 were abused by their father and 43.1% were abused by their mother. 14% of those 65 years and older had experienced domestic violence.

In order to curb domestic violence, 29 different provinces have formulated strategies to combat and prevent domestic violence. 90 cities have introduced legislation to help curb domestic violence and more than 2,800 counties have developed advocacy services and stations. The women's hotline “12338,” is available for women in need and there are more than 8,000 Women's Federation throughout the country.
