A domestic dispute turned dark in Anhui when a man cut off both of his wife's hands with a cleaver in a passionate rage. The angry husband had recently found that his wife had been having affairs. She had also been involved in an illegal pyramid scheme, and refused to listen his threats and leave the operation. All of not these, of course, are definitely not good enough reasons to cut off someone's hands.

On March 11, police rushed to the northern end of the city to save 27 year old Jiang from her knife wielding husband, 31 year old Chen. Chen was extremely angry at his wife for a number of reasons. The couple had apparently been swindled last year into taking part in a pyramid scheme. Chen claims that he quit the operation when he found out that pyramid schemes were illegal (and that he wasn't going to make any money off it it). He tried to get his wife to quit with him and suggested that they go back to their hometowns, away from the evil of pyramid schemes. Jiang, however, had been brainwashed by those who ran the operation and refused to quit.

Chen was further enraged when he found out that his wife had been having offline affairs with men from online chat rooms. He confronted his wife in their apartment, commanding her to return to their hometown. The argument escalated and ended in Chen chopping both of Jiang's hands off with a kitchen cleaver.

Jiang was rushed to the hospital and is thankfully recovering well from the brutal attack. Chen was detained by the police and is lucky that the term, “an eye for an eye,” is not taken literally by the legal system.
